DescriptionThe obverse of this kopeck shows a man on horseback, holding a spear, who could represent either St. George or the czar, and the reverse includes an inscription in Russian. This coin is an example of "wire money" or coins produced by taking a piece of wire and imprinting the obverse and reverse images upon it.
Mikhail Fedorovich became czar of Russia in 1613 AD at the age of sixteen, following twenty years of unrest and warfare after Ivan the Terrible died. He is known as the first of the Romanov dynasty, which ended in 1917 AD with the Russian Revolution and the death of Czar Nicholas II.
